Their mission is to ensure that nutrition, mindfulness, and overall well-being are readily accessible to everyone.

Their mission is to empower these healers to channel their expertise and wisdom towards the betterment of the BIPOC community. Through holistic and culturally sensitive practices, they aim to foster healing, resilience, and wellness among individuals within the BIPOC community, ultimately promoting a more vibrant and thriving collective well-being.

Living Beyond Breast Cancer is a national nonprofit organization that seeks to create a world that understands there is more than one way to have breast cancer. To fulfill their mission of providing trusted information and a community of support, they offer on-demand emotional, practical, and evidence-based content that is meaningful to those newly diagnosed, in treatment, post-treatment, and living with metastatic disease.

Traci’s BIO mission to support those who are newly diagnosed and breast cancer SURVIVORS maintain a level of normalcy while going through an abnormal process. Their desire is to provide breast cancer survivors with the EDUCATION , SERVICES, RESOURCES and both SPIRITUAL and THERAPUTIC SUPPORT to assist with this life changing process.

Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia

The Cancer Support Community Greater Philadelphia offers more than 150 programs each month – all provided free of charge – to men, women and children impacted by cancer throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region.

Representation Matters

The presence of Black breast surgeons and doctors is of paramount importance in the realm of cancer care. Their expertise and representation within the medical field not only address healthcare disparities but also offer unique perspectives and approaches that contribute significantly to improved outcomes for patients, particularly those from marginalized communities.

Dr. Monique Gary, known affectionately as “Dr. Mo,” is a multifaceted professional with roles as a breast surgeon, educator, entrepreneur, media figure, farmer, and philanthropist. Currently, she holds the position of Medical Director for the Grand View Health/Penn Cancer Network’s cancer program. Additionally, she serves as the director of the breast program within the same network.

Central to Dr. Mo’s philosophy is the belief in the profound connection between the mind, body, and spirit in promoting overall well-being. She is deeply committed to addressing health disparities among marginalized communities. Driven by a desire to both uncover the root causes of these disparities and forge pathways to access, her work has been featured in various publications, online platforms, and peer-reviewed journals. Her ultimate goal is to democratize wellness—embracing the physical, mental, and emotional aspects—for everyone.

Dr. Mo earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her general surgery training at UMass, followed by a specialized fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Georgetown University Hospital. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Mo holds faculty appointments in surgery and serves as a prominent advocate for national breast cancer organizations, including Living Beyond Breast Cancer, Touch, the Black Breast Cancer Alliance, Tigerlily Foundation, The Chrysalis Initiative, and the National LGBT Cancer Network.

Dr. Renée L. Quarterman is a distinguished, board-certified breast surgeon with a wealth of experience. She obtained her degrees from Brown University and Duke University School of Medicine, followed by a comprehensive surgical residency at Oregon Health Sciences University.

With over 16 years in the field, Dr. Quarterman has successfully established and expanded breast surgery practices nationwide. She has taken on roles as Medical Director for multiple breast centers, overseeing the entirety of breast health services from imaging to cancer diagnosis and care coordination. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, she is an engaged member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and holds certification in breast ultrasound from the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Quarterman is deeply committed to advancing women’s health awareness within the medical community. She played a pivotal role as a founding contributor and editor of Breast360.org, an educational platform centered around patient well-being, created by the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Her substantial contributions have garnered recognition from esteemed organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the YMCA, and a Citation by the Massachusetts Senate for her unwavering dedication to community service.

Dr. Oluwadamilola “Lola” Fayanju, a distinguished figure in surgical oncology, holds positions at Duke University School of Medicine and Duke Forge. She is acclaimed for her research in health disparities, aggressive breast cancer variants, and enhancing value in oncology, with substantial support from the National Institutes of Health. Her work has been featured in esteemed journals like Annals of Surgery and JAMA, reflecting her significant contributions to the field.

With an extensive academic background, Dr. Fayanju earned her MD and master’s degree in population health sciences from Washington University in St. Louis. She completed her residency in General Surgery and pursued specialized fellowship training in Breast Surgical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. In recognition of her expertise, she was named an Emerging Leader in Health and Medicine Scholar by the National Academy of Medicine in 2019.

Starting July 1, Dr. Fayanju will take on the role of Helen O. Dickens Presidential Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Here, she will serve as the Chief of Breast Surgery for the University of Pennsylvania Health System, Surgical Director of the Rena Rowan Breast Center, and an esteemed faculty member at the Penn Center for Cancer Care Innovation (PC3I) within the Abramson Cancer Center. This transition marks a pivotal moment in her distinguished career.
