Founded on a foundation of compassion, we are driven by a deep commitment to guide, educate, and advocate for every cancer patient, irrespective of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, financial status, and more. Leading the charge as LGBTQ+ Advocacy Directors at The Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation are the dedicated spouses, Katelyn Bucolo (she/her), RN, BSN, and Jenna Bucolo (she/her, they/them), RN, BSN.
Katelyn Bucolo, a graduate of Widener University School of Nursing, brings her expertise as a Radiation Oncology nurse to the forefront. Her life’s passion is advocating for and seamlessly connecting the care of individuals battling cancer.
Partnering alongside her is Jenna Bucolo, who shares a mission to provide diverse resources to LGBTQ+ individuals facing cancer. Recognizing the historical discrimination within healthcare that has jeopardized lives through delays and denials of necessary care, Kate and Jenna, as members of the LGBTQ+ community, are acutely aware of the stigmas impacting access to healthcare.
In response, Kate and Jenna are dedicated to combating discrimination in healthcare for LGBTQ+ individuals battling cancer. They are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, pledging to advocate and provide essential resources to ensure equal access to medical care.
