Dr. Nia Imani Bailey, DPA, M.A.Ed., RT(T), is the CEO & President of the Byrd Cancer Education & Advocacy Foundation, a native of West Philadelphia with a diverse background and an unyielding passion for making a positive impact. With nine years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, she intimately understands the challenges faced by cancer patients.
In December 2020, Dr. Bailey achieved the pinnacle of her academic journey, earning her doctoral degree in Public Administration from West Chester University. Her research, dedicated to improving the timely diagnosis of breast cancer in young women and examining the impact of healthcare regulations on their outcomes, underscores her commitment to advocating for policy changes that enhance healthcare access for this vulnerable group.
As a patient herself, navigating the complexities of the healthcare system with lupus and carrying a cancer gene, BCL6, Dr. Bailey possesses firsthand knowledge of the struggles faced by individuals grappling with serious health conditions. Her dual perspective as both a healthcare professional and a patient informs her advocacy work, creating a powerful synergy that drives meaningful change.
A compelling motivational speaker, Dr. Bailey draws from her personal experiences to inspire others. Her ability to connect with her audience, coupled with her journey as a cancer advocate, empowers individuals facing their own challenges. Central to her life is her faith, which provides her with the strength and resilience needed to navigate life’s complexities.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Dr. Nia serves as a Strategic Advisor, Intern Mentor, and The Delaware Campaign Director for the Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge. Committed to volunteerism, she dedicates her time to Live Like Lukas, Inc., actively contributes to the Unite For Her Organization Advisory Committee Task Force for Women of Color, and plays a vital role in organizations such as Living Beyond Breast Cancer and the CDC Bring Your Brave Campaign.
A versatile talent, Dr. Bailey is also a writer and director. Her documentary, “A Letter to My Sisters: A Breast Cancer Documentary for Young Women,” sheds light on the experiences of young women facing breast cancer. Additionally, she authored “A Letter To My Sisters: The Erica Jo Robinson Story,” offering a powerful account of Erica Jo’s battle with cancer.
Adding to her extensive list of roles, Dr. Nia is an Advisor for Bexa Equity Alliance and holds a board membership with the Still Rise Farm Organization.
