Alvin R. Fields’s, WHY

My interest in the Byrd Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation and the Board Member At-Large Position

To start, my interest starts as I am a prostate cancer survivor and thriver since 2010 when I had a complete proctectomy. At that time, I had no options for chemo, radiation or any other option at my disposal and since cancer was so rare and my PSA was a 4.8, which was deemed very high, my only option was surgery. So having direct knowledge of what cancer patients and thrivers go through as a Board Member At-Large would be invaluable to this position and to this foundation.

Since my diagnosis and treatment, I have been steadfastly and tirelessly working towards establishing a men’s healthcare group primarily within the Black and Brown community for the purpose of educating for the purpose of prevention and treatment of as well as the health maintenance for prostate cancer survivors and thrivers. As a Board Member At-Large I would have the ability to provide leadership and strategical direction for the foundation as well as being there to establish and support the mission and vision of the foundation and working for any and all fundraising and donations for the foundation.

My vast knowledge in Corporate America and the Customer Service Field and my Managerial experience make me a great candidate for serving on committees and working on specific issues that would greatly help the foundations mission and vision to hopefully eradicate cancer in our lifetime or at the lease give cancer advocacy and education to all who need it and want it.
